Before You Set Up That Blog, You Must See This!

What is a Blog?

Definition: A Blog is very similar to a website. It is a diary/ journal that is regularly updated and maintained by the owner who is known as the – blogger. Blogs can be updated once a day, once a week, or even once a month. Blogs can be private (talks about the private business of the owner and kept away from public domain), while majority of them are made available publicly on the internet for the world to see.

Before we proceed, I think you need to understand these terminologies first:

  • Blog: an online journal/diary that is made available on the Internet for public access.
  • Blogger: Someone who owns a blog and keeps the blog alive (making new posts, sharing latest news, information, case-studies, opinions etc…)
  • Blog Post: An article or writing that is inside the blog.
  • Blogging: The act of maintaining/writing a blog;

Why is Blogging needful for you?

If you are thinking of the fastest way to have a business online, Blogging is one of the surest ways to do so. It also helps you stand out from everyone else and build authority for yourself and your brand in your particular area of interest.

To fully understand why one needs to blog, I think we need to fully understand what blogging is all about and how we can apply it to our personal life and business to help reach our desired goals (be it to make more money or take our message to the world.

If you’ve not started already, I think now is a great time to start; don’t forget, the internet market place will keep expanding to accommodate more. So never you worry about the market getting over-saturated that will never happen; because technology will keep evolving. Find below several reasons why you may need to consider this option as one the most viable channels towards achieving your money goals and build a massive ‘influence’.

  1. It is highly profitable and enjoyable

Blogging is one the most enjoyable activity you can get yourself involved in. It helps you to write about stuffs that you like or simply enjoy doing and at the same time sharing that very information with the world. It offers you the opportunity to meet real people from different parts of the world online who share similar interests (some of these people you may never meet till the end of your life; while some other ones who will be among them may bring a major turn-around in your life and help you achieve more of your life goals.

Do not forget, you made need to spend some time alone in front of the computer often if you intend to become a highly successful blogger; that is the price you’ll have to pay for the greatness, money and the fame that comes with it.

Blogging will help you to become highly resourceful, help a lot of people and have an entirely different view about life. As a blogger, you’ll become a problem solver instead of contributing to more problems to our already troubled. People will look up to you for a lot of things and you’ll become a role model to a whole lot more. No matter what you do as a blogger, your aim should be to make to make life better and ease off people’s stress.

  1. You will meet new people, get more popular and build new relationships

Blogging will offer you the opportunity to meet so many new friends you otherwise would never have met. It will make you very popular and wildly expand your relationship circles. These new friendships and contacts you’ll build might just be initiated via comments on your post, replies on a Tweet you made or you being appreciative of someone retweeting your Tweet or simply following you; an email or Facebook chat or simply someone stumbling upon your post online.

Most of my friends online are currently my best friends at the moment and I love it that way because these are friends who never make you miss your way; they are focused, they know what they want, where they are going, what they need to do; and every single time they’ll challenge you to do more and achieve more; If you ask me, these are the kind of friendships one must have to keep if they desire growth and more impact.

Most of these friends you’ll meet them in educational events and conferences, some of them might be in main stream media, some other one might be championing a cause; the bottom-line is this: most of the friends you’ll meet online are/ or will become top influencers in no distant time. So be careful how you treat them.

For instance, I blog about “Making Money Online” and currently a lot of friends online got attracted to me because of that and are also mostly in the make money online niche or simply just some top influencers online.

  1. Boundless limits (You’ll go more places, meet new people and do a whole lot more).

If you love travelling, making new friends, hungry for learning and achieving more, then you need to pay more attention to blogging.

You see, I love money; and most especially I love making money online. Therefore I consistently study in this particular area so I can know more, teach more and become more to a lot of people by expanding my knowledge in this chosen niche and providing quality information to my friends and followers online to help them make progress in this area.

I help a lot of network marketers, crypto enthusiasts, upcoming bloggers, unemployed folks and undergraduates to find a clear, direct path and lead a purpose-driven life by teaching them priceless skills needed to become super-successful in the online marketplace (most of these I do for free). Then when I have their trust, they can buy my more detailed information in e-book format, subscribe to my in-depth trains or attend my events.

The more you write, the more you discover, the more discover, the more you learn a whole lot more, the you learn a whole lot more, the more you become more, the more you become more, the you’ll achieve more and reach a whole lot more- That is how to become a super-human…Lol.

So in blogging, no matter what niche (area of interest; a tailored market that you made for yourself following you desire, strengths and interest) there are always some new things to discover.

The reason a lot of people fail online is this: They kill themselves over something that doesn’t exist; and that is –Perfection. You can never know everything in this world neither in your chosen area of interest; and the most important thing to know is that you don’t need to know it all before you start.

Find a way to start and learn on the job. Perfection simply does not exist anywhere, you will only achieve excellence as you continue to grow and do more. Hence, there is no need to become a research specialist before you can start up that new business online via blogging.

Don’t worry about people calling you amateur; you must understand that no one is professional enough; even the one that feels he knows everything in the world was taught or stole some information here and there from other people to build what now appears like what he personally knows.

Now, get busy in your strength and with what you know already. Do it imperfectly, more especially do it afraid if you have to; but whatever you do, never get stagnated. Keep moving and do more every day. Everything you could ever dream of learning, knowing or doing is currently available online, the ‘HOW TO’ is also there, you can also find a lot of people who are already doing it online. So you’ve got no excuse!

  1. You’ll be highly motivated and challenged to do more

If you can’t talk to people (maybe you’re the shy type, fearful or simply introverted), you can just sit behind your computer and write all the things you wish to say in person but couldn’t. You can air your view without fear. You can reach more people through your platform drive your message home to the hearts of your desired audience. Be that super-human you always see in the mirror with blogging.

In fact, most of the fiery influencers that I’ve met online are to some extent introverts, soft spoken and soft at heart too; but when they come online, they spit fire sitting behind their computers. You can do some amazing things as a blogger.

If you must want to become more, break all your limitations and make more impact in life, blogging is one of the surest ways to do so. One of the most important things you’ll do for yourself will be to get out of your comfort zone and put yourself and brand on the map.

  1. You will understand the basics of building and growing a true business online

Blogging will offer you boundless opportunities beyond your imagination. You can get an invitation to go and speak in another country, conference or simply a moderate group. You can be interviewed on radio or have your own program running on radio or TV, you will be approached for participation in several contest or simply to identify with a particular cause, you can be chosen as an ambassador to represent a cause or a group of people.

  1. Blogging helps you cut cost and start up your business with a very low budget

Blogging is a business and it’s also one of the best ways to build a very lucrative, sustainable, scalable, transferable, legit and true business online without having to pay through your nose.

So if you’re low on budget/ or capital, I think you can consider blogging. If securing an office space and others relevant expenditures associated with setting up a fresh business appears a herculean task, then here will be a great place to start. This is a business you can start from your home, right inside your bedroom.

  1. You have a platform where you can communicate and express your thoughts

If you have a very strong message to send out to the world, then you can do so through your blog. There’s no better and cost effective way to do so than blogging. Secondly, you own the platform and can do as you like with it. If peradventure Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, WhatsApp or even google shuts down tomorrow, all your valuable contents there will be gone and they don’t shit owe you shit because you signed a contract not to hold them liable to any loss and as well gave them the exclusive right to shut down your account when they deem fit or when you go against the rules.

So, in case you have all your contents on a borrowed platform, please it’s high time you stop planting flowers and molding statues in a rented apartment.

  1. You’ll find the true definition of the term: ‘Financial freedom’

There’s no better way to achieve financial freedom easily than through blogging if your major challenge is capital. You don’t need much expertise to become a blogger. If you’re not very skilled or techy, you can outsource the job to a professional to help you set up; so you start your journey almost immediately.

All you need is great passion for your chosen niche and what you intend to achieve. You can make a lot of money from blogging just about anything but make sure you’re very passionate about it eg. the famous Linda Ikeji made millions from gossiping just about anything on her blog, when you think music, the first place that comes to mind is notjustok.com and I personally help people on how to make money online through my blog etc.

As a blogger, most of the people that are going to approach you for assistance are those who are struggling with finances or people who simply want to upgrade their business; and many of them will really not have much to pay to you; so in view of this, you must discover what is generally affordable for such people and develop some other premium services that you can sell to your premium clients.

However, blogging goes beyond helping poor people to succeed because of the boundless opportunities it offers you to make ‘real’ money through other opportunities and establish ‘authority’ for yourself and brand.

Blogging is a proven channel to building a sure, solid business that goes beyond the online space, do not expect a miracle overnight. Like every other business, you must build it. Blogging is not a business for some lazy fingers. It requires hard work, and a lot of time and effort but the most beautiful thing about it is this: You’re in total control, you own your business 100%. You decide how much or how little you wish to work.

If I’m To Set Up A Blog, Then What Should I Blog About?

This is the N50,000,000  question; and I get this a lot of time from several people. This is the confusion which is married to the fear that has become a stumbling block to a lot of people even before they set out to start their business.

Some what if you find yourself in this situation where you want to do something but don’t actually know where to start exactly?

Do not fret. There’s something you must do; a principle you need to follow so you don’t trap yourself in the mountain of indecision before starting your business.

You need to find your ‘Genius Zone’. Find out the stuffs you’re passionate about and the stuffs you’re an expert in. Find the very point where your expertise meets your passion; that is where you might wanna kick off your blogging from, that is something you might wanna blog about; and you’ll be super-successful doing just that, but anything short of this will bring you nothing but heart-break and disappoint. Blog only things you’re passionate about.

You may say but I’m not an expert Well that’s fine too.

But like I mentioned earlier, perfection does not exist; and you’ll be an Alice in the wonderland if you intend becoming an expert before you can start your business, excellence is achieved by continually ‘doing’ a thing, not by steadily learning and planning to become perfect in it without actually ‘lifting a finger’. No, it doesn’t work that way. You become an expert continually by actually doing that which you are supposed to be doing, not talking about it.

I never started out as a professional blogger; but today, I have my website, published my books, set up my podcast channel, have some professionally branded social media accounts, became a seasoned blogger, invited to speak in public engagements, skilled at SEO etc.

I became good at all these things not because I simply love them and wish to do every single one of them all at the same time…No, I gradually I achieved all that I desired in my ‘beautiful imperfection’.

Therefore, if you too desire growth as well, I think this is the sure way to go.

So, if you’re truly passionate about it, then you must learn to make it better otherwise you’ll never succeed doing it. And I think it’s noteworthy to bring this to your notice:

The easiest way to become a professional in anything is to read about it passionately, secondly you have to apply that which you’ve read to see exactly how it works. Do not be afraid to make all the mistakes. It is part of the process of becoming exceptional, it is part of becoming the best at what you do.

Truth is: You don’t have to be an expert before you can become a blogger. Do it imperfectly and learn in the process. Life itself is a process; with time you’ll become an expert and be known as an expert too. Quit talking, planning and procrastinating; start blogging Now.

All you need to establish your authority as a professional blogger is to write, write, write and write great contents.

So, you must have to figure out where your passion lies; and build your blog around the solution you can offer to the world via that same area you’re highly passionate about. That is how you can become valuable, make money, and affect your generation.

What you must do now

Decide what you want to blog about! Figure out your Zone of Genius and pick from there, or decide on something where you’ll document the journey.
Then tell the world about it because your friends and family will hold you accountable. Post it to Facebook or tell a close friend. But don’t let the naysayers get you down. You can earn a living as a blogger, and you can do it.

How To Create Your Blog

When you first think of building a website, what is the first thing that readily comes to mind?

Now, your success or how far you’ll go is totally dependent on two major things:

  • The quality of your contents
  • The strength of the platform you’re using

So, it’s super-simple; if you want to be a successful blogger you need to run your blog on a successful platform. Period!

I know there are free-hosted blogging platforms; and I’m not saying you can’t make money from them either, but the truth remains: you won’t be much respected neither will you be able to make as much money as you would like the one using a self-hosted platform

Good enough, owning a blog doesn’t cost that much money –Blogging is the cheapest form of business that anyone can set up.

There are two major platforms in the world:

  • Free-hosted
  • Self-hosted

But for all platforms in the world, be it free-hosted or self-hosted, WordPress remains the #1 blogging Platform. If you want to start a WordPress blog with a very low budget, you can make use of Hostgator, Bluehost, webforafrica or even smartweb.

I have used Hostgator.com severally and I must say they’re very affordable and offers top services; but for some personal reasons, most of my web properties are with smartweb.com.ng now.

If you’re working by yourself, depending on the quality of website you’re building, you can be up and running in a matter of hours with something as low as N10,000 for a year.

Why is it necessary that you pay for hosting?

There are lots of free-hosted platforms for your free blogging all over the internet eg., Blogger, free-hosted version of WordPress, etc. You could start your blogging career on any of these free platforms completely for free. However, if your motive is to build a real business and make money off your blog, then you should seriously give self-hosted platforms a second thought (and I’ll recommend WordPress for that).

Find below some of the reasons why you need to consider self-hosted platforms.

  • Helps you make earn a living off your blog and earn more through advertising
  • Helps you make money off your services and appear more professional
  • Helps you build a truly successful business online
  • Gives you the opportunity to create professional looking, easily customizable beautiful website that attracts visitors and customers.

Something very important that I think you should also know is that, free-hosted blogging platforms like Blogger does not offer customization and flexibility. Hence you cannot add all of the features that are readily available by default on self-hosted platforms.

One of the reasons why I personally would not subscribe to free-hosted platforms are summed up in this:

If you start your website/ blog on a free-hosted platform, sooner or later you’re gonna have to migrate it to self-hosted immediately your site starts growing; and if this is the case, why would anybody want to put themselves through undue pressure of migrating to a second better platform when you could have done so with less than Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000) from the beginning with a self-hosted platform. That would have been “Penny wise, Pound foolish”.

You need to be able to customize your site if you want to make money for example, if you want to make money from advertising, advertisers usually prefer professional looking websites not free-hosted.

Factors you need to consider before naming your blog

‘Naming your blog’ followed by ‘customization’ are the two major types of headaches you’ll first encounter when setting up your blog; and this accounts for major defeat encountered by lots of people who tried to set up their business, got demoralized and abandoned everything.

It just takes time to figure out a suitable name for your business. However, your niche and tailored solution will help you to easily get that sorted on time. You also have to avoid long names , joint names, and names with some unpopular extensions.; .com, .org, .net and .info extensions are very good. Then considering your country, you can also have an extension with your country initials added to it eg; www.theonlinemillionaire.com.ng The best way to format your name should be: www.theonlinemillionaire.com second best should be www.theonlinemillionaire.com.ng never try something like this: www.theonlinemillionairecoach.com.ng

Guess I’ll have to end it here. You can reach out to me personally further insight into this
